ABOUT RON ENGLISH… Ron English plays guitar stylings on standard show tunes,
light jazz, classic R&B and contemporary gospel. His duo, trio, quartet, or
solo guitar performances are well suited for civic or business gatherings,
holiday parties, wedding dinners, church services, birthday or anniversary
celebrations, as well as restaurant and club settings.

By
1970, jazz guitarist Ron English had already appeared on a National Public Television
series with Joe Williams, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and his own trio. From the 70's
into the 90's, Ron toured and recorded with Michigan jazz artists Lyman Woodard,
Wendell Harrison and Eddie Russ. Ron toured internationally with Motown recording
stars (including Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Four Tops, and the Supremes'
Mary Wilson), and recorded with Gladys Knight. Ron also performed and recorded
with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, under Antal Dorati. Earlier in his career,
he played the guitar solo on a classic rock "nugget," the Woolies' "Who Do You
Love." For more than twenty years, Ron English led his own jazz groups in the
greater Detroit area, opening concerts for Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, the
Jazz Crusaders, and others, and appearing frequently in Detroit's Labor Day
jazz festival at Hart Plaza. From 1992 to 2000, Ron was Minister of Music at
Rosedale Park Baptist Church, and he continues on staff there. A jazz and gospel
CD will be released in 2007. Ron continues to accompany gospel, jazz and pop
performers, as well as traveling Broadway show companies, in their Michigan
appearances. Ron teaches guitar, as well as jazz theory and ensemble classes,
in the Continuing Education program at Marygrove College. He previously taught
in Jazz Studies programs at Oakland University and Michigan State University,
and has conducted clinics and workshops at the University of Michigan, Wayne
State University, Oberlin College, Aquinas College, and other campuses.
